Yeah I don’t know what these people are talking about sometimes. Like we suddenly decided gaming is cool and we are pretending to like it? I’ve been playing video games since I was a kid and a lot of them even back then were targeted towards girls/women. I got my start in coding modding the Petz games and making websites about them.

Why I learned to code: making dogs with blue markings on them.

And a lot of the games I played even back then you could chose to play as a female character, like Harvest Moon, Dragon Quest Monsters or Pokemon (starting with Crystal). I think though these games are often just invisible, they aren’t thought of as part of “gaming culture.”

And of course plenty of girls did play the games there were part of more mainstream gaming too.
