The interesting thing is that a lot of black Chicagoans are migrating South because our city is so incredibly racist and discriminatory. Most of the most segregated cities are in the North.
And the South will never change as long as liberal people refuse to live (and vote) there. I agree Food & Wine should be held accountable for representing the full richness and diversity of food in America in both staff and content, but I think people migrating South is a good thing. Especially as coastal cities become more and more unaffordable. The question is whether they use this to include more voices in food media or if they just settle into the “good old boys” networks.
And we’ll see some Southern states turn blue in my lifetime. I’ve seen a lot of change just in my own 30 years — growing up near Atlanta my family was afraid to talk about our Jewish heritage and now there is a very large population of Jewish people in the area.
