I kind of used conservative as tongue in cheek here and more simplistically as the idea of conserving the status quo. In reality I think American conservatism is pretty varied and hard to pin down. For example the conservatism I grew up in was really strongly tied to both Evangelical religion and free market ideology. This type of conservatism doesn’t really exist in tech. In tech I see two types of conservatives:

Reactionaries: These people both believe discrimination doesn’t exist and if it did don’t think we should do anything about it. They believe any current inequalities are a result of “natural” processes, primarily market or sociobiological.

Neoliberals: I mean really these are more classical liberals but so many reactionaries are using that term now so I’ll use this one. But basically these people believe in mainstream economics based in the classical tradition. That discrimination is a problem, but it is a market-based problem and we should primarily use market-based mechanisms to solve it.

Plus the related Fauxgressives who either don’t really care about anything beyond protecting the company, their own job, and doing what sounds good and makes them look good. A “Diversity Day” with “empowering” speakers for example.

Also bizarrely in opposition to diversity programs you have both the anti-identity politics right, who despises them because they are reactionaries, and the anti-identity politics left, who despises them because they believe class/worker’s rights are more important than the demographics of the upper class.
